ARTIST STATEMENT:
In the history of successful Diet Coke slogans my favorite is “Open Happiness.”
Though in this piece I constructed the can of diet coke poured over ice (with a lime to make it fancy), I actually don’t prefer the can. I’m in the club that knows the fountain from McDonalds is superior. But to artists, silver aluminum has way better reflective qualities than a paper cup.
Diet Coke is equally as beloved to me as all of the portraits of icons I have made out of boxes of cereal which is why I veered to a still life and took on this subject. There is no shame in my aspartame game. I say Diet Coke is to beverages as Michael Jordan is to basketball.
